Holy Week Special Services: April 13-14, 2017

The Milesburg and Bellefonte Presbyterian churches have decided to spend some time together during Holy Week. On Maundy Thursday, April 13, the two churches will have dinner together at the Milesburg church at 6:15 pm, followed by the service which includes communion. The Milesburg congregation traditionally has a special meal, which includes their “Maundy Thursday Casserole”. The Bellefonte church members are asked to bring a dessert to share. The traditional Tenebrae service will be held at 7:00 pm on Good Friday, April 14, at the Bellefonte Presbyterian church. We will be blessed both evenings with the presence of our new Interim Pastor, Reverend Dr. Gary Califf, and his wife, Kathy. Holy Week provides us with a great introduction to the next chapter in the life of our church!

Palm Sunday Ham Dinner: Sunday, April 9, 2017, 12:00-2:00 pm

As Jesus touched the lives of many, our purpose with this dinner is to touch lives for Jesus Christ by preparing and serving a ham dinner for those in Bellefonte, and the surrounding areas, who are in need. Through this act of service, we will show our gratitude to God who so graciously provides for us. There are many ways to support the event; please contact the church office for additional information.

Lenten Scripture Reading: “Ignatian Contemplation, March 2 – April 6, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Lent is a perfect time for us to draw closer to our Lord through a form of prayer and scriptural reading called “Ignatian Contemplation.” Join us on Thursday evenings, March 2, 9, 16, 23, and April 6 from 7:00-8:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte to learn how to use our imaginations as we read scripture and pray to draw us more deeply into the Gospels and a relationship with Christ. We will use our senses to imagine the lives of Jesus and his followers, which will make the scriptures come alive for us. All materials will be provided free of charge and everyone will be encouraged to practice this contemplative exercise in between sessions. Participants do not have to attend all sessions to learn something that can be used in daily life. Contact the church office with questions.

Lenten Food Drive

With the help of Wooley, the Deacons are sponsoring the annual Lenten Food Drive. Each week during the 40 days of Lent, the Deacons request donations of specific items for the Food Pantry:

  • Week 1: Oodles of O’s (Cereal)
  • Week 2: Tins of Tuna (Tuna and other Canned Meat)
  • Week 3: Portions of Pasta (Dry Pasta)
  • Week 4: Servings of Sauce (Pasta Sauce)
  • Week 5: Fast Food Fixin’s (Packets of Noodle or Rice Sides)

Support the Deacon’s Food Pantry

The Deacons would like to reach out to the congregation to prayerfully consider supporting our church’s Food Pantry. Support can be provided in two ways. First, a monetary donation can be given any Sunday using the “Deacon’s Fund” envelope in the pews. Second, food items can be donated. Below is a list of items placed in the bags each month:

  • Box of cereal
  • Can of soup
  • Can of vegetables
  • Can of fruit
  • Can of meat (chicken or tuna)
  • Can/jar of pasta sauce
  • Pasta (usually spaghetti, or any pasta noodles)
